Tell President Obama to veto The Dark Act, Senate Bill 764.
Federal Senate Bill 764 marks a lethal blow to all state governments and to all citizens. On July 14th U.S. Senators and Congress Members cast votes that could end the health of our nation and the health of its people. As a federal group they took away the right of states to make laws alerting their citizens to the presence of toxic genetically modified foods in their products. They also took away the right of citizens to know if their food contains toxic genetically modified substances by passing a federal voluntary labeling law that will offer only labeling of a very small number of the GMOs on the market, and that labeling doesn’t even need to be on the package and can be by electronic means. All the rest of GMOs will be hidden and not known to consumers.
They agreed to placate corporate wishes above and beyond states’ rights and citizens’ needs. They agreed to cause harm to citizens by silencing the truth about the toxic nature of GMO and hiding their presence. They have shown the American people their view, that the federal government and corporations are in charge of the health or un-health of citizens and not citizens themselves or citizens’ local state governments. In one fell swoop they have contributed to making America weak by taking local states’ rights away, and making Americans sick by poisoning them with genetically modified foods. They have added health care problems and costs to all people living in our country.
We must reverse this to protect our country and our health. Until we can reverse this terrible and dangerous federal ineffective “non-labeling” law, all citizens must eat organic food only, which is free of genetically modified substances. Then we must ban together to reverse this terrible law and protect our right to know what is in our foods.
We must be free to maintain health. We must be healthy to maintain freedom.
