Big Tech is pushing bills to increase unsafe wireless technology instead of focusing on wired broadband, which is not only faster and cheaper, but also safer and more secure. The additional wireless infrastructure will subject our Earth to greatly increased levels of wireless radiation which has a toxic impact on the health of humans and other living things. By wireless radiation we mean the wireless radiation from cell antennas and 5G poles that is increasingly ever-present. We mean the man-made sources of mainly microwave radiation that is far greater now than humans have been exposed to on this planet in the past. The amount of microwave radiation we are exposed to now is greater than the intensity levels in our grandparents’ days by a factor of 1018. This unnatural radiation is unlike sunlight and other natural radiation that we have lived in harmony with for eons.
We need governmental regulations that protect us from excessive microwave radiation, not more and more antennas giving us more and more exposure. Governmental regulations should protect us from this radiation, not encourage its proliferation!
Faulty Safety guidelines issued by a captured agency
In 1996 the FCC purportedly offered guidelines for microwave intensity that supposedly would protect our health. These guidelines only addressed thermal effects, the effects that occurred at levels that heated a body. The “guidelines” are only good enough to protect us from getting heated up and cooked but not good enough to protect us from being harmed. It was already well known especially from military studies that this radiation can have enormous biological effects even without raising a person’s body temperature. These effects include neurological damage, blood disorders, vascular disorders, metabolic disorders, sperm damage, and more.
The FCC is in charge of setting standards for radiation and health. It has refused to update these regulations since 1996, despite the increase in number and type of exposure to wireless radiation we have today. The FCC has yet to respond to the 2021 court ruling stating that the FCC ignored extensive scientific evidence showing harm and failed to provide a reason that its current guidelines adequately protect us from the harm of microwave radiation.
Wired broadband and bridging the digital divide
Wired broadband in the form of fiber optics technology uses laser light to communicate and the light stays within a fiber chord and so it does not cause health and environmental issues the way that wireless technology does. It furthers the goal of bridging the “digital divide” because once it is installed it does not have to be updated for a lifetime, whereas wireless needs updating approximately every 5 years. Fiber uses less energy and is not a burden on the electrical grid.
Big Tech continues to promise wired broadband in the form of fiber to “bridge the digital divide.” Americans have been overcharged to the tune of a 1 trillion dollars to install fiber to all even in rural areas but the industry has not delivered. The FCC has not adequately monitored these companies; every few years the companies request more money and more deregulation and more subsidies and promise once more to do what they should already have done.
Overrun with radiation from new antennas
All living things should be able to enjoy life and the environment free from the adverse effects of wireless radiation. Approximately one-third of people have some form of radiation sickness, where their health is affected by the radiation. More people are likely to suffer as exposure to wireless radiation continues and increases. Wildlife, trees, plants, and birds can all suffer from wireless radiation too. There is a choice to make: should we have unsafe wireless radiation through antennas outside or more energy efficient, safer, more reliable, cheaper fiber broadband to each home?
Deceptive Bill Titles
The current bills often have deceptive, catchy titles that hide the negative impacts of the wireless services on health and the environment. For example, House bill HR471, the Fix Our Forests Act, which has already passed the House and is now in the Senate in the Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry, Natural Resources and Biotechnology, contains a provision (section 303) for a pilot study to install and test 5G wireless antennas to supposedly prevent wildfires. This opens the gate for vast proliferation of wireless radiation from 5G and cell towers throughout our beautiful national parks and forests. So, the title is misleading and conceals the harm that the additional radiation would inflict on wildlife and on people visiting those wild areas. Who would not want to fix our forests and prevent wildfires? Ironically, this sort of technology is known to be responsible for fires in the West, including the Woolsey fire which caused 6 billion dollars worth of damage, destroyed 100,000 acres, 295,000 people evacuated and three deaths. Wireless facilities and electrical poles can also be toppled over in high winds, can expose dry vegetation to electrical equipment fires, and have been documented as the cause of numerous fires in rural and urban areas. Our legislators should stop rubberstamping the industry’s wishlists and instead request that the FCC obey the court order to revise the guidelines and begin to protect public health and the environment.
Our friends at The National Call For Safe Technology are meeting with Senators in all of the states on these issues. If you would like to join a Zoom meeting with your Senator as a constituent, or even help initiate such a meeting please notify The National Call at hello@thenationalcall.org.
