Continuing Protection of the Right to Make One’s Own Health Decisions

The freedom to be in charge of the health of my own body is my fundamental human right. It is the right of all humans on earth. Individuals strive, from birth onward, to survive in the way that they consider necessary.

When Freedom is Taken Away

We sure found out what it felt like to have someone take away our ability to make health decisions during Covid. Fear of death was the overarching emotion. Mandates rolled out to make decisions for us. It got ugly. Many of us were caught off guard. Public officials made new emergency orders, ordinances and laws that impacted our health choices, including mandates to: stay inside; wear a mask; get emergency treatments of drugs and ventilators;  don’t take other approaches not recommended by these officials; avoid being with family members at the time of death; get vaccinated; shut businesses down; close schools and churches.

In the aftermath people shared their experiences. The pain of loss of health freedom was very real with many very sad stories. New understandings of the importance of health freedom emerged.

Bottom Line: Fear is not a good enough reason to give up health freedom.

Would we tolerate health mandates if they ever were levied against us again? NO.

Can we make sure that public policies and laws are in place to protect our freedoms? YES

Bodily autonomy is a fundamental right, and it was challenged in the face of what was called a “health emergency.” New protective laws were introduced challenging the health emergency powers actions on constitutional grounds. If today you think the laws in your state will not protect your freedoms during a health emergency, then you could immediately band together to pass protective laws. People make laws!!! But of course, it would be best to do that ahead of time.

Now is the time to look up the laws in your state to see if any new protective laws have been passed to protect your right to make health decisions for you and your family. Check out the Righttorefuse.org website to see if there were proactive laws passed in your state in the past five years.

Are mandates the only way to keep people safe and thriving? NO

It is amazing what innovative plans people come up with to keep their individuals and communities safe without taking away freedoms. Observe what you do within your own family. Observe what you do in your neighborhood. If you want, you could bring a group together now to discuss options.

Can people and communities survive disease without mandates? YES

History shows us that there are thousands of ways to survive diseases in populations, to experience health, to maintain health, to enhance health, and to protect health. Having all the knowledge and options available is extremely important so that individuals can utilize what works best for them and their families in emergencies or non-emergency situations. Review your current options and begin a conversation with others to explore solutions. Freedom is an ongoing conversation as we evolve as humans and communities.

NHFC and NHFA’s deepest desire is first of all to let people know that they have a right to their own bodily autonomy, the right to make their own health decisions for their own survival. And secondly, we are passionate about our mission of making sure that people’s options remain open to them, whatever they think they need to survive and be well.

There is a plethora of healing and health care options available around the world. Yet, over the years in the U.S. the dominant conventional medical and pharmaceutical product culture has supported laws that make it illegal for many options to be available and to be practiced. NHFC and NHFA work to address that problem and support all options, both conventional and nonconventional. We work to ensure that practitioners of the healing arts have the legal right to practice. We work to ensure that healing products are available. And we work to ensure that truthful information is always accessible. We wish to make sure that all options are available so that people can truly make decisions about how they want to maintain their health.
