Support Oklahoma Senate Bill 1840
WITH AMENDMENTS
Protect access to Oklahoma’s complementary and alternative healers like herbalists, homeopaths, Ayurvedic practitioners, and other traditional healers.
SB1840, An Act Related to Natural Healing Arts, was introduced and referred to the Health and Human Services Committee. It has not had a public hearing yet in the Committee and the deadline to be heard is Monday, March 2, 2026.
As written, SB1840 allows unlicensed practitioners of natural healing therapies safe harbor from charges of practicing medicine without a license under certain conditions, including a list of prohibited acts.
Constitutionally, licensing is only required for occupations that present an imminent and significant risk of harm to the public. Protection for unlicensed complementary and alternative practitioners whose practices do not rise to the level of harm requiring licensure is crucial! Amendments have been drafted by the bill sponsors for SB1840 which address definitions of certain therapies that were confusing.
The Amendments are also in Committee and will appear on the website after the vote, under the Versions tab.
If approved by the Committee Chair and Vice Chair, this bill will be heard by Monday, March 2, 2026. Details are posted on the Oklahoma Senate website 24 hours in advance. Click here for details 24 hours in advance.
Please ask the Committee Chair Paul Rosino and Vice Chair Brenda Stanley to hear this bill by March 2 and URGE the Committee Members to hear and vote YES on SB 1840 WITH THE AMENDMENTS!
