The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is seeking input from the public because of a 2021 federal court order in the case, Environmental Health Trust v. FCC, which required the FCC to look into several areas of scientific study and provide a reasoned explanation to the court as to why it did not update its 1996 guidelines for the safety of wireless radiation. The FCC has not complied with the court order, and the guidelines remain the same as they were in 1996. After further litigation, the FCC opened a request for public comment on the current science of the effects of radiofrequency (RF) radiation. This is an opportunity for us to submit, in our comments, the published science conducted by leading independent scientists for the FCC to review.
The FCC sets the regulations in the United States for the safety of radiofrequency radiation—the radiation emitted from the antennas of cell towers, cell phones, Wi-Fi, and other such wireless communications technology. It set guidelines in 1996, but these guidelines were only to protect a body from being heated up, ignoring the myriad of other effects that do not involve heating a body. Even in 1996, there were thousands of scientific studies showing harm at radiation intensity levels below those set in the guidelines. The FCC safety guidelines are among the most unprotective levels in the world. Since 1996, when the FCC guidelines were set, they have not been updated. The court ordered the FCC in 2021 to look into specific areas of science, and the FCC is seeking comments for these three areas mandated by the court:
The FCC invites comments on portable device (such as cell phones) testing compliance issues. Comments on this technical issue are perhaps best left to scientists and engineers who are able to delve into it. Check the FCC Public Notice for more information. Most of us can skip this one!
The impacts of RF radiation on children, the health implications of long-term exposure to RF radiation, the ubiquity of wireless devices, and other technological developments that have occurred since the Commission last updated its guidelines; and,
The impact of RF radiation on the environment.
The public comment period began on September 21, 2026 and ends on October 22, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
The FCC wants comments backed by studies and scientific research. You may submit as many times as you want. There is a link to some excellent scientific studies below in number 7 of the Submit Your Comment section. With many submissions with excellent science, the FCC should be ordered to recognize the existing scientific evidence and end its longtime denial of the harm being done by its lax regulation of radiation levels. The FCC should have no more excuses for ignoring the 2021 order of the federal court.

Open the form at the FCC’s Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS), make sure to fill in all fields with red asterisks.
